WebThe production of O2+ by a second‐order ion—molecule reaction in CO2 has been studied in a conventional mass spectrometer. Experiments are described designed to determine whether the O2+ arises from the reactions O++CO2→O2++CO or CO2+(2Σg+)+CO2→O2++2CO. WebEsters are produced when carboxylic acids are heated with alcohols in the presence of an acid catalyst. The catalyst is usually concentrated sulphuric acid. Dry hydrogen chloride gas is used in some cases, but these tend to involve aromatic esters (ones containing a benzene ring). The esterification reaction is both slow and reversible.
